What is key difference between Current transformer and potential transformer ?

Current Transformer
1. Current transformer is used to stepdown the high-value current to the low-value current.

2. Core of current transformer made from a lamination of silicon steel.

3. Primary winding of current transformer carries the high-value current which is required to measure.

4. Secondary winding of the current transformer is connected to the current winding of measuring instruments.

5. Current transformer are connected series with the measuring instrument.

6. Current transformer primary winding having a fewer number of turns.

7. Current transformer secondary winding having a large number of tuns that should not be open-circuited.

8. Current transformer secondary winding has a range of 5A or 1A.

9. Current transformer having a low transformation ratio.

10. Current transformer burden can not depend on the secondary burden.

11. the current transformer has constant current input.

12. Primary winding of current transformer having full line current.

13. Current transformer has two types (1) Wound types and (2) Closed core type.

14. The current transformer having a very low Impedance value.

15. Current transformer is used to measuring current & power,  Monitoring power operation, and used for operating protective relay.

Potential transformer

1. Potential transformer step down the high voltage to low voltage.

2. potential transformer core made from high-quality steel which is having low density flux.

3. Primary winding of potential transformer carries high voltage which is to be measured.

4. Secondary winding of the potential transformer is connected to an energy meter or measuring instrument.

5. Potential transformers are connected in parallel with the measuring intrument.

6. Primary winding of potential transformer having a large number of turns.

7. secondary winding of potential transformer having a small number of turns and secondary winding of potential transformer can be open circuit.

8. Range of secondary winding of a Potential transformer is 110V.

9. Potential transformer having very Low transformation ratio.

10. Burden of the potential transformer depends on the secondary burden.

11. Potential transformer having constant input voltage.

12. Primary winding of potential transformer having the full line voltage.

13. Potential transformers are two types: (1) Electromagnetic and (2) Capacitor voltage.

14.Potential transformer having a high impedance.

15. Potential transformer used for measurement, power source and also used for operating relays.
